Zebra striped birthday cake

This is the cake I made for my daughters 14th birthday.  It turned out great.  She and I are huge pink fans but, feel free to use any color gel food coloring to tint your icing.  You can make your cakes or icing from scratch if you like. I chose to spend more time with her and take the help where I could get it.

Zebra Stripe Cake

1 box devils food cake mix, made according to package directions
1 white cake mix, made according to package directions
2 cans of white store bought icing
Gel food coloring of your choice

How to make Zebra strip effect

Now pour 1/4 cup of white batter in the center of the baking pan.
Then pour 1/4 cup of chocolate batter on top of the vanilla batter in the center

Do not disturb or try to shake it or wait for it to spread or tilt the pan for it to spread. It will spread by itself. Keep on pouring both the batter alternatively until all the batter is gone.
Do this in 2 8" cake pans.

Bake according to package directions.
Voila zebra cake!

For the icing mix icing with food color gel until you get desired color.

Place first layer of cake on cake plate.  Place small amount of icing onto cake and spread evenly.  Place second cake onto the first and do a crumb layer of icing. (Thin layer of icing).  The I used the Wilton star tip 21 to make swirls all over the cake.
